The first of these images (1-5) are from
a body of work
that was made to re-create childhood memories. The blurred
quality in the images relates to the difficulty I experience
in clearly recalling my past. I photographed objects that
reminded me of my childhood experiences, but there is a
sense of loss. The predictable nostalgic feeling is interrupted
because the objects are isolated. There are no people in
these very still images, and some of the objects are
decaying due to neglect or age.
During the completion of this project I
realized that I
was having the most fun exploring and wandering around
outside. This prompted me to begin photographing landscapes
that are linked by the constant inclusion of water. Water
is
a fascinating subject. It has a transforming quality. Water
can physically transform a landscape and it can become
something almost unreal when captured on film.
As a photographer, I strive to evoke certain
emotions in
the viewer. I want to acheive this by creating poetic rather
than documentary style photographs. I want my photographs
to appear unrealistic in the sense of a distant memory, or
a
dream, or even a painting. |
